5 Tips For Using a Laptop in the Sun

With summer finally arriving, many of us have been trying to work outdoors and see our laptops in the garden. Getting an angle where you can see it in the sun can be tricky but with the warm weather looking like its here for at least another week or so, we’ve put together this list of tips so you can work outdoors, at least some of the summer.

1. Increase the Brightness of your Laptop

This is a pretty obvious step that many people overlook. Many devices these days have light detectors for auto brightness adjustment but most laptops don’t, so it is easy to forget. Upping the brightness will make the screen more brilliant and easier to see if working outside in direct sunlight. It’s worth remembering, screens do consume the most energy in a laptop, so increasing the brightness will equal increased power consumption, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your battery level and back up work regularly or use an extension cable to stay plugged in.

2. Pick a Spot in the Shade

Where possible, set up your laptop in the shade. As well as making it easier to see your screen, it also helps prevent your laptop overheating and keep you drinks cool.

3. Wear Sunglasses

Another easy hack is to wear a pair of sunglasses. A pair of polarized sunglasses will go a long way to improve using a laptop in the sun.
Sunglasses help to reduce the effect that the sun would have otherwise had on your vision, while also making you look good on those zoom calls. Opting for a pair with an anti-reflective coating will greatly reduces sun glare.

4. Wear Dark Clothes

This is a good little hack whenever you want to work outdoor with your laptop. Since bright colored clothes can tend to reflect rays of sunlight back onto the screen, this reflection can make it more difficult to see your laptop screen. Dark-colored clothes, on the other hand, are less likely to reflect rays of light, they absorb it instead.

5. Sit and Face the Sun

Probably the most simple and easiest tip on this list.  When you sit and face the sun, your laptop will automatically cut out the sun, making it impossible for the laptop screen to catch any sunray, screen blindness is prevented as a result.

Enjoy summer while you can and remember if you are working outdoors to keep hydrated and wear sunscreen.
