Extended Home Working? Here’s How To Get Comfortable

Now that home working has been extended for many of us, is it time you stopped working at the kitchen table and got serious about your home office environment?

This week we’re giving you some tips you can use to make your home office set up more comfortable and organised.

Desk location

Keeping distractions to a minimum will help you focus during your working day, Take a walk around your house and find a corner or room where you can set up a desk space. Look for natural light and somewhere quiet if possible.

If space is at a premium (which is probably the case for 90% of us), find an area with a blank wall where you can fix shelves for your files. You could think about taking the shelves right up to the ceiling and using a footstool to store the papers and equipment you don’t need as often.

Keep your shelves tidy by investing in storage boxes – we have lots for you to choose from, tidying everything away into boxes will help keep your workspace clear and hidden away when you aren't using it.

Organisation

Another key factor for being productive while working from home, is keeping your desk area clean and tidy. And by that we mean being organised! If you’re filing pile is now a growing at the end of your dining table, try dividing this up and storing in it ring binders or drawer boxes.

Chairs

It's a fact that if we keep sitting on dining chairs while working from home, our backs are going to complain. When we sit for long periods, pressure is put on our lower back and if we don’t make changes now, we’ll pay for it later.

Ideally you could nip into the office and pick up your old office chair, but if that’s not possible or you plan to divide your time between home and the office then now would be the time to invest in an ergonomic office chair which will support you in all the right areas. We have a large range in stock, and we’d be happy to recommend one based on your particular needs.

Desks

If you're looking to invest in a new desk for your home office, now is a good time to consider a sit-stand option. These are desks which allow you to switch between a seating and standing position, usually with the aid of hydraulics fitted into the legs. The benefits of being able to switch positions are well known now, being seated for long periods of time is not only bad for our backs, it is leading to obesity and poor health so being able to move around while we work is heavily encouraged. If you’re not able to stretch to an integrated sit-stand desk, have a look at ‘extenders’ which fit to your current desk and give you the option to move your screen to a standing position.

Give us a call about these options, we have both in stock and are happy to be the knight in shining armour for your back!
